The first hand-held Dirt Devil vacuum cleaners were called the “Royal Prince,” and they were first introduced in 1937. In 1853, however, the Geier Company sold its rights to an investment group, who changed the name to Royal Appliance Manufacturing.
After that, the company continued to change its management in 1954; and another in 1981. These new investors decided to increase and change the marketing strategies, and eventually expanded their business to cater to the market.
The first batch of the Dirt Devil vacuum cleaners, the hand-held vacuum cleaner, became an instant hit when it was first released in the market in 1984. Because of this success that has brought the company to fame, the company decided to make these hand-held ones their signature products. Since then, it became the highest rated and top-selling hand-held vacuum in the US, with over 23 million products sold since.
Today, the Dirt Devil vacuum cleaners have introduced several new products and types in the market to add to the hand-held vacs:

- The Dirt Devil Vision is a type of Canister Vacuum that uses bagless technology. The motor used by the canister would have 12-amps, and the canister uses fingertip controls for people to control the speed and suction power of the vacuum cleaners. It weighs about 11 pounds, which makes it light enough to allow consumers to glide it easily on different surfaces and floor areas.
- Scorpion Quick Flip
- This is probably the most compact of all the Dirt Devil vacuum cleaners. It is the corded and modern version of the original hand-held vac that was first released in the market. It uses a 7-amp motor, and it also has a shoulder strap allowing the user to bring it anywhere. With this little gem, cleaning becomes a breeze.
